At Rainbow Day Care, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, feel valued, and reach their full potential. We are fully committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing environment where children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are supported, respected, and celebrated as unique learners.
Our Inclusive Approach We follow the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and The SEND Code of Practice to ensure that all children, regardless of need or ability, have access to high-quality early education and care. Our approach is centred around:
Early Identification: We closely observe each child’s development from the moment they join us. If we notice any emerging needs, we work sensitively and collaboratively with families to identify the right support as early as possible.
Personalised Support Plans: When additional support is needed, we develop an individual plan using the Graduated Approach which is tailored to your child’s strengths, interests, and specific needs. This may include SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timebound) outcomes, adapted activities, reasonable adjustments or additional adult support.
Experienced and Trained Staff: Our practitioners are trained in supporting children with SEND and receive ongoing professional development. We also have a designated SENDCo (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Coordinator) who oversees provision, ensures best practice, and supports both staff and families. Our SENDCo’s are Alison Oldfield and Claire Cox.
Partnership with Families: Parents and carers know their children best, and we value this insight. We work closely with you, keeping communication open and regular so we can work as a team to support your child’s progress and wellbeing.
An Enabling, Accessible Environment Our rooms and outdoor spaces are designed to be flexible and inclusive. We adapt our environments, routines, and resources to ensure that every child—whatever their needs—feels comfortable, included, and able to participate in all aspects of nursery life. Visual aids, sensory activities, quiet spaces, and structured routines all help to create a supportive atmosphere in which children can flourish.
Equal Opportunities for Every Child We ensure that children with SEND have the same rich learning opportunities as their peers. Our goal is to build confidence, promote independence, encourage communication, and celebrate every achievement, however big or small.
