About Us

Rainbow Day Care opened in 2018 and is proudly located in the heart of Hoyland Town Centre, offering a warm and welcoming environment for families within the community.

We offer an exceptional learning experience for children aged 0-5 years and we take pride in our committed approach to delivering excellence in Early Years care and education.

Owned and managed by local sisters Alison Oldfield and Sue Herbert, the nursery benefits from over 40 years of combined experience in childcare and business management. The passion for high-quality early education is reflected throughout every aspect of our setting.

We provide care for children aged 0–5 years, offering both full day and half day sessions, and we are open from 7:30am to 5:30pm. We offer term-time and year-round places to suit your needs.

At Rainbow Day Care, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to plan meaningful opportunities for play, learning, and development. Our fully trained and highly skilled Childcare Practitioners use the four guiding EYFS themes to nurture every child’s individual progress:

We work closely with families to ensure continuity of care, respect for home routines, and a shared understanding of each child’s needs and interests.

Our Rooms

Daffodil Room (12 weeks – 2 years)

Our calm, self-contained Daffodil Room provides a nurturing start for our youngest children. Accommodating up to six babies and toddlers, it offers a secure and stimulating atmosphere designed to support early sensory learning. With an experienced and qualified team and a dedicated Key Person for every child, we ensure comfort, consistency, and strong communication with parents. The room opens onto a secure outdoor area, encouraging safe and gentle exploration.

Buttercup Room (2 – 3 years)

As children grow in independence, they move into our Buttercup Room—an environment that balances security with exciting opportunities for discovery. With free-flow access to the outdoor space, children can choose where to play as they develop confidence, social skills, and curiosity. Our practitioners tailor support to each child’s changing needs and work in partnership with families to maintain routines and learning continuity.

Sunflower Room (Pre-school)

Our Sunflower Room prepares children for the next steps in their learning journey. Building on the EYFS principles, we offer playful, purposeful activities that support early literacy, numeracy, communication, social development, and more. A well-structured daily routine ensures time for independent play, child-led activities, and outdoor learning. With direct access to the garden area, children can explore freely while developing key school readiness skills.
